Charles Hoskinson's comments on ETHgate are criticized by the Ripple executive and community.

In response to Charles Hoskinson's defense of the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) remarks favoring Ethereum (ETH) over other projects, David Schwartz, Chief Technology Officer of Ripple, has retaliated.

The controversy, known as "ETHgate" in the world of digital assets, began as a result of the SEC's case against Ripple (XRP) and a new wave of regulatory pressure on altcoins, which suggests that many of them may qualify as securities under the Commission's jurisdiction.

The debate intensified after a draft of the well-known Hinman documents, in which SEC director William Hinman argued that Ethereum wasn't a security, was made public.

On October 8, Cardano co-founder Hoskinson addressed the ETHgate conspiracies in an AMA session, claiming that there was no evidence to support them and that the government's actions were not motivated by corruption.

He distinguishes the actions from corruption by referring to them as acts of favoritism that sparked outrage from the larger community.

This is how the internet functions, and it can't be fixed right now. None of that activity implies corruption; only favoritism. ".

Hoskinson continued by contrasting the business philosophies of Ethereum and Ripple, noting that the latter caters to different clientele and lacks smart contracts.

Are you really that worried about what will happen to XRP? If you do, in my opinion, you're a crazy person. "Doesn't that dilute your entire goal of making Ethereum not a security to also do that," he continued.

Last but not least, he said that supporters of ETHgate have yet to provide any evidence, despite their repeated requests for emails or meetings involving any alleged official corruption.

The neighborhood and Schwartz react.

Schwartz criticized the executive of Cardano's way of thinking, adding that if the government shows favoritism for the benefit of the populace, it may be considered corrupt.

"I would contend that corruption occurs when a government official exhibits favoritism that is consistent with their own and their friends' personal interests. ".

The XRP Army, a group of crypto enthusiasts, came out in support of Schwartz and called the events "nothing but corruption" in the X (formerly Twitter) comment section. ".

Regarding Hoskinson's time at Ethereum, other conspiracies were also advanced, suggesting that he might have something to conceal.

Hoskinson was one of the original eight Ethereum founders and held the position of CEO for a short period of time before departing in 2014 to found Cardano following a disagreement with other Ethereum founders.
